Intrusion Error

When existing knowledge, such as a schema, or a memory of another experience is mistakenly included in a new memory.

• Ex: People who waited in an office recalled seeing books in it. There were none, and an office schema supplied them.
• Ex: After hearing a list of words related to sleep, a student recalls hearing sleep, which was not on the list.
• Ex: A fan remembers a penalty from Saturday’s game that happened in a different game the week before.
