The failure to notice something in plain view because attention was directed elsewhere.

• Ex: Looking directly at a jar of peanut butter in the cabinet while searching for it.
• Ex: A driver checking for cars and pulling out in front of a motorcycle.
• Ex: A witness who is certain that nobody else was in the room.
